Popcorn Growing Season
While each species of popcorn has different requirements and time to maturity, generally speaking, the following apply to all varieties of popcorn.
Popcorn is a fall vegetable that should be planted in the late spring after the last frost of the year and harvested in early fall around September. Your popcorn should be planted in rows of 6- to 12-inch-deep mounds, with three to four seeds per mound, and in soil with a pH between 5.8 and 6.8. While there might be some variation between species, corn is typically ready to harvest in the fall when the husk has dried and the ears of corn are no longer green.
