Ornamental Corn Growing Season
While each species of ornamental corn has different requirements and time to maturity, generally speaking, the following apply to all varieties of ornamental corn.
Ornamental corn is a fall vegetable that should be planted in the late spring after the last frost and harvested in early fall around September. Your ornamental corn should be planted in rows of 6- to 12-inch-deep mounds, with three to four seeds per mound, and in soil with a pH between 5.8 and 6.8. While there might be some variation between species, corn is typically ready to harvest in the fall when the husk has dried and the ears of corn are no longer green.
