Delicata Squash Growing Season
Delicata winter squash is a warm-weather plant and should be planted in the late spring. Delicata squash does best when planted in areas that get an average of six to eight hours of direct sunlight a day. You should plant your squash seeds in mounds with three to five seeds about 2 feet apart and 2 ½ inches deep, with a soil pH between 6.0 and 6.8.
On average, it takes 80 to 100 days for Delicata squash to reach maturity, and you will know that the squash are ready to harvest when the plant has a 24” to 48” spread and is 10” to 12” tall, or when the fruit is 3” to 8” long.
