Autumn Beauty sunflowers are a warm-weather flower and should be planted in the late spring. Sunflowers do best when planted in areas that get an average of six or more hours of direct sunlight a day. You should plant your sunflowers about 1 foot to 1 ½ feet apart to give the flowers adequate space to reach their mature size. Autumn Beauty sunflowers grow best in moist, fertile soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.2.
On average it takes 90 to 110 days for Autumn Beauty sunflowers to reach maturity, and you will know when your sunflowers are ready for harvest when the plant has an 8†to 12†spread and is between 60†and 72†tall. Sunflower seeds can be harvested three months after they’re planted but should be picked prior to the first winter frost.
