Soybeans can grow in most types of soil, but best results are obtained on fertile loams. Plant around corn planting time, when the soil is thoroughly warm. Soybeans are best sown in either rows or in close drills. Broadcasting is not advised. For hay or green manure, close drilling is recommended. Soybeans may be satisfactorily grown in combination with other crops to produce a better balance feed and higher yields . Corn, cow peas and sorghum are most commonly used for this purpose.
