While each variety of nasturtium may differ slightly in time to maturity and growing conditions, the following generally applies to all nasturtium varieties.

Nasturtium should be planted in late spring, one to two weeks after the last frost. Nasturtiums typically do well in all climates; however, if they become heat-stressed, then they may stop blooming. Nasturtium grows best in full sun ranging, with at least six to eight hours of sun daily; however, they will also grow in partial shade but blooms will be less than those in direct sunlight. Nasturtium seeds should be planted ½-inch deep into the soil, in rows spaced 6 to 8 inches apart. Nasturtiums do best in soil with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5.

On average, it takes 60 days for nasturtiums to reach maturity. Be sure to support trailing nasturtiums by providing supports for longer vines. Trailing nasturtiums are best enjoyed in window boxes or hanging baskets, as they’ll drape and climb better than when in smaller garden spaces.
